To keep the same profit a month

At your numbers each order keeps $9.70 on sale instead of $18.75, so you'd need at least 58 orders a month instead of 30, if costs stay the same.

Good to know

  • The discount comes off the item price only.
  • Etsy charges its fees on the price the buyer pays, so a discount lowers them too; the listing fee and the 25¢ processing fee stay.
  • A coupon Etsy pays for itself doesn't come out of your pay. This is for sales and coupons you fund.
  • A sale can bring new buyers who come back, reviews and search rank. This doesn't count them: it compares profit a month at the same costs.
  • Buyers who'd have paid full price get the discount too, and some sale orders are orders that would have come later at full price. The extra orders have to be new ones.
