How much Etsy takes from a $10, $25 or $100 sale

Key takeaways
- On a $100 sale with no shipping charge, Etsy's standard fees come to $9.95, and $90.05 is left before your own costs.
- On a $25 sale the fees are $2.83, and on a $10 sale $1.40, which is 14% of the order because of the fixed $0.45 per order.
- Etsy charges its 6.5% and 3% on shipping too, so a $25 item with $5 shipping costs $3.30 in fees, the same as a $30 item shipped free.
- A sale from an Offsite Ad adds 15% or 12% of the order, at most $100: on a $100 sale that is $15.00 or $12.00 more.
On a $100 sale with no shipping charge, Etsy takes $9.95 in standard fees, about 10% of the order, and $90.05 is left before your own costs. On a $25 sale it takes $2.83, and on a $10 sale $1.40. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad, Etsy adds 15% or 12% of the order on top, at most $100.
Rates change. These figures use Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy (last updated October 5, 2026) and Payments Policy (last updated July 31, 2026), checked on October 13, 2026, for a US shop selling in US dollars.
The three fees on every sale
- Listing fee, $0.20. Etsy charges it when you publish a listing and each time it renews. When a listing with more than one in stock sells, it renews for another $0.20, so every order carries one.
- Transaction fee, 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus what the buyer pays for shipping and gift wrap. It is not charged on US sales tax.
- Payment processing fee, 3% plus $0.25 for a US shop. Etsy's Payments Policy says the 3% is assessed on the gross order amount, including shipping and tax.
The $0.20 and the $0.25 are the same on every order, $0.45 together. That is why small sales lose a bigger share to fees than large ones.
| Sale | Listing | Transaction | Processing | Total fees | Share of order | Left after fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $0.20 | $0.65 | $0.55 | $1.40 | 14.0% | $8.60 |
| $25 | $0.20 | $1.63 | $1.00 | $2.83 | 11.3% | $22.17 |
| $100 | $0.20 | $6.50 | $3.25 | $9.95 | 10.0% | $90.05 |
When the buyer pays for shipping
Shipping the buyer pays is part of the order, so the transaction and processing fees apply to it as well. The fees go up a little, but so does the money that comes in.
| Sale | Order total | Listing | Transaction | Processing | Total fees | Left after fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10 item + $4 shipping | $14.00 | $0.20 | $0.91 | $0.67 | $1.78 | $12.22 |
| $25 item + $5 shipping | $30.00 | $0.20 | $1.95 | $1.15 | $3.30 | $26.70 |
| $100 item + $8 shipping | $108.00 | $0.20 | $7.02 | $3.49 | $10.71 | $97.29 |
Fees follow the order total, not how you split it. A $25 item with $5 shipping and a $30 item with free shipping both cost $3.30 in fees. What changes is what you keep after the label: the shipping money in the table still has to pay for postage. Our shipping gap calculator compares what buyers pay with what labels cost.
When the sale came from an Offsite Ad
Etsy pays to show some listings in ads on other websites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy's Offsite Ads help page counts the sale as an Offsite Ads sale. The fee is 15% of the order (item, shipping and gift wrap) if your shop sold under $10,000 in the past 365 days, and 12% once it has reached $10,000. It is never more than $100 on one order, per the Fees & Payments Policy.

Etsy takes $21.95 in all, 22.0% of the order.
On a $25 item with $5 shipping at 15%, the Offsite Ads fee is $4.50, because it is charged on the shipping too. Total fees come to $7.80, 26.0% of the order, and $22.20 is left.
The $100 cap only matters on large orders. On an $800 order at 15%, the fee reaches the cap, so Etsy charges $100 and total fees come to $176.45. A $900 order at 12% is capped the same way, with total fees of $185.95.
Shops under $10,000 in the past 365 days can opt out of Offsite Ads. Once a shop reaches $10,000, it pays 12% and can't opt out. Our Offsite Ads calculator shows what the fee costs across a month.
Sales tax and other currencies
Two smaller lines can show up. When a buyer pays US sales tax, the 3% processing fee applies to the tax as well: on a $30 order with 7% tax, that adds $0.06. If your listings are priced in a different currency from your payment account, Etsy adds a 2.5% currency conversion fee, which is $0.75 on the same $30 order. Our post on fees sellers miss goes through these and others.
What the estimated profit box leaves out
In March 2024 Etsy added an estimated profit calculator to the price section of the listing form, as Value Added Resource reported on March 25, 2024. A consultant quoted there called it really a fee calculator, and sellers in the comments named costs it doesn't count: supplies, packaging, postage, their own time and ads. The consultant also said it uses the lowest possible processing fee and leaves out taxes on Etsy's fees.
The same is true of every figure above. Left after fees is not profit. Materials, packaging, the shipping label and any Etsy Ads you pay for still come out of it.
From one sale to the whole shop
Fees on one sale are the quick part to check. The harder question is how the month adds up once costs, labels and ads are in. If you'd like your own numbers, the check-up works through a month of your shop from seven answers.
